    BIOGRAPHY AND RESEARCH INTERESTS

Marcin Skotnicki obtained his MSc Pharm. in 2005 from Medical University of Gdańsk, Poland. In 2008 he took research and teaching position at Poznań University of Medical Sciences at the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology and later he undertook PhD work under supervision of Prof. M. Pyda. His thesis was entitled Characterization of valsartan and its compatibility with bisoprolol studied by differential scanning calorimetry and solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance and this work focused on comprehensive solid state characterization of amorphous and crystalline phases of APIs to provide insight into their structures and molecular mobilities and compatibility studies of binary solid pharmaceutical systems in the context of formulation of multi-ingredients preparations (polypill). During his PhD he spent time working at Advanced Thermal Analysis Laboratory (Rzeszow University of Technology, Poland) and Solid-state NMR Group (Durham University, UK). He obtained a PhD (distinguished by the Faculty Board) in 2015. Marcin has a continued research interest in preformulation aspects of solid pharmaceutical materials (polymorphs, amorphous and co-amorphous forms).

He is also a community pharmacist with experience in Poland, Republic of Ireland and the UK. His second area of interest is related to pharmacy practice and pharmaceutical care and focuses around the patient adherence to the treatment regimen. Especially, he is interested in the causes of non-adherence and application of interventions in the everyday pharmacy practice in order to increase the safety and efficacy of pharmacotherapy.
